Since February 2024, CASA has been walking alongside a mother and her children through the ups and downs of their case. After the children were removed earlier in the year, they were able to reunite with Mom in August on a monitored return — a hopeful step forward.
But in December, tragedy struck. Mom’s father passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, triggering a deep bout of depression. As her mental health declined, day-to-day tasks became overwhelming. Her dryer broke, and without the funds or energy to fix it, laundry piled up throughout the house. While Mom was able to clean up most of the house, the piles of clothes were a constant reminder of how hard things had become.
When CASA visited Mom’s home, they focused on her strengths — noting that providing clothing for her kids was a testament to her care and dedication. They realized that a simple fix, like a working dryer, could make a big difference in helping Mom regain stability.
CASA stepped in to help. A CASA Specialist found a dryer, purchased it, and helped install it in Mom’s home. That one small act of support lifted a weight off Mom’s shoulders, giving her one less thing to worry about and helping her get back on track.
CASA’s work isn’t just about advocating in the courtroom — it’s about showing up, recognizing strengths, and offering practical support when it’s needed most. Sometimes, a new dryer isn’t just a household fix — it’s a step toward healing and hope.
